I have a friend that loved acrylic nails. She kept them on for a very long time and when she finally decided to get rid of them, her natural nails underneath were already too brittle and weak. Since that time on, her own natural nails just couldn’t fully recover. It has destroyed her self esteem ever since. After seeing my friend go through this horrible episode, I’ve decided to spread the word about proper nail care or the proper way to take care of your nails.

So onto the point. I want to share with you how you can easily and safely remove acrylic nails. The first thing is that you should dip your hands in pure acetone. This will take a bit more time but it is very natural and very effective and will also lessen the chance of damaging your natural nails. After some time, the acrylic nails will eventually loosen and come off easily.

Lastly, one of the best ways you can save yourself some headache is to just go and visit your trusted nail salon and get a professional nail technician to remove your acrylic nails for you. They will most likely do the same things but they will probably have better equipment and don’t forget ambience and service and you can get yourself a nails manicure straight after. Just remember to make sure they apply a base coat and top coat to polish.

So isn’t all the things above simpler than getting a credit card and start chipping away on the sides, trying to use it to remove those acrylic nails?

Then go try it out for yourself and try not to get acrylic nails too often. And remember, since your nails become weak from wearing acrylic nails too much and too long, you should get proper nails manicure regularly to get your nails back to health again.

I am a experienced nail technician, I am very concetned about this article. Acrylic nails DO NOT damage natural nails however long they are worn for. Incorrect application or removal and clients picking, biting or not returning for maintance on time damage nails! The nail plate does not need to breathe and any damage to the nail plate caused by any of the above should grow out as long the matrix (nail root) is not damaged. Articles like this cause much harm to our profession, and any nail tech who is trained properly considers the health of the natural nail at all times.

Thanks for the insight. Brittle nails are a pain and I always dread when I have to remove my nails, they are always so weak. I’ll try the water thing and see if I notice a difference in my nail strength.

And you’re right it is a much better idea to soak artificial nails to loosen them than to pull them off or chip away at them. That really could cause damage to natural nails.

I’m almost 12 years old and I got acrylic nails(: Your tips are GREAT! I tried ripping one off but that didn’t help, it just hurt! This white peeling stuff coming off my nails… Isn’t that the layers of my nail peeling off? I tried taking a warm bath thinking that would represent the warm water(: It worked! I’m putting on Sally Hansen Salon Nail Care Protein Nail Strenghthener on right now. I hope I will re-gain my nail’s back(: I love having long nails, but for now there too much for me.

I love heaving long nails too and i use regular acrylic nails but i didn’t have any problems. Maybe the nail tehnician is the problem or incorrect application or removal.

I have been a nail technician and beauty therapist for over 11 years. I teach every type of nail extension and enhancement possible at private companies and at colleges.
There is NO way on this earth that ANY DECENTLY applied Acrylic nails can be removed by soaking them in warm water!! They would have to be severely ‘peeling at the edges’ and also would still need to be pulled off to some degree, for this to work., which will cause damage, although not permanent, to the natural nail.
Only by soaking them in Pure Acetone will they melt and be safely removed.. Or, having them filed off by a professional, experienced nail tech.
